Huber was born in Feldkirch, Vorarlberg (in modern-day Austria) and later moved to Passau in Lower Bavaria. He was an artist of the Danube School and his work shows the influence of Albrecht Dürer - he was also an architect, although none of his architectural work survives. In 1517 he became court painter to the Duke of Bavaria.
